Class 13

I have officially had a breakthrough when it comes to tracking and fixing the slipping.

So last week I had the idea to stabilize the footage and project it on a card. Then create a camera that backs away from the card. That way I don't have to worry about 3D camera tracking or slipping. I would only have to make sure the door moves correctly in the x and y axis if it moves at all. However, that did not work like I thought it would. I personally believe it was a great plan and could have worked with footage that did not move as much as mine did. So after trying that method for hours, I decided it was time to ask for help. I went into the visual effects discord and asked if anyone was available to help me. Jadyn Murphy, a fellow SCAD compositor, recommended increasing the amount of features I was using and changing the focal length to 35. I have been using 300 features for a lot of my tracks and have now increased it to 800. I also was leaving the focal length at default because I could not find a clear answer on what an Iphone 13 Pro's focal length was since it utilizes 3 different lenses. Changing those 2 settings did give me a better track, but it still wasn't perfect.

The breakthrough I had unfortunately didn't happen until Sunday, so I do not have a lot to show for it right now, but I will be updating this page further once I have it put together. So for all the door shots, I will be taking a still frame and projecting it on a card. This card will be flat against the ground and directly under the door. Putting it directly under is important (I put it too far below the first time and didn't understand why I was still getting slipping). It has the same thought process of the idea I thought of last week where you cant see the door slipping because the ground below it is slipping too.

This is how I have it set up:

By the end of tomorrows class (10/24/2022) I want to have shot 1 completely put together with the best track I can get, the ground projection, the door interior projection, the new render of the door and shadow, and Donnie standing in the door way. By Wednesdays class I plan to have that shot color graded to my liking and the 2 other solo door shots complete. This weekend will be dedicated to getting the circle shot completed with new tracks for the doors that need it and new renders for all the doors.

By the end of week 8 I want to have a whole new video that includes the film grain, color grade, and finalized credit sequence. Hopefully week 9 and beginning of week 10 are just tiny adjustments.
