Class 14

I am a little frustrated with the little amount of progress I am able to show every week. This tracking problem has been a really big set back for me. I even tried camera tracking in After Effects...

I thought I got an okay track with the focal length set to 36, however the camera is upside down. Not a big problem because I can just flip it back around, but I just feel like I should be getting a track that is better than okay with a camera that is right side up. I think that the problem is that I filmed this on my phone. Filming on the beach without tracking markers could also be part of the issue, but there was lots of debris in the sand that I figured would be useful. I have been able to get plenty of user tracks out of them. However, my phone (Iphone 13) has 3 lenses. Telephoto (77mm), wide (26mm), and ultra wide (13mm). I think that the track isn't working because I don't know what to put the focal length at. Had I put a cube or something to reference in the scene, maybe I could try a camera match with a cube in Maya and estimate the focal length. That is something that I had not thought of and may just try tomorrow. Just video tape a cube and match it in Maya. I'm assuming the focal length would be the same.

I've said this a lot over the past couple weeks, but I think this one might be the one. I may have a solution for my camera tracking. I have done the tracks for a lot of these so much that I have reference on how much they shrink as the camera moves away. So to get a track that wont slip, I would use the 2D tracker to get the x and y axis movements and then transform the door smaller as the camera moves away. I am confident that this will work for shots 1, 2, and 4 since the camera is just moving away. Less confident with shots 3 and 5 since the camera is moving in a circle. However, for those shots, I already have doors 2, 6, and 7 tracked individually. So there is little to no slipping with those ones. As for the door interiors, I will experiment with using my existing cameras to get the parallax from them with my working Nuke file. Even if the camera is just moving in the z axis.

Here is the 3D track with the ground projection. It technically works, I would just need to do some clean up on the edges of the card.

Problems: Projection broke and camera is upside down

2D track + scale down (Note to self: Make sure to track a point close to the bottom center of the door. It is important to have that as the center when scaling.)

Matching to render I got from my last video. (Track was good just slipped a little)
