At the start of this week, I was able to update my subsurface and transmission layers, and create a fresnel layer. I also rendered the layers out to see how it could look composited in Nuke.

Above, you can see was having a hard time with my hdri. It kept coming out really dark which resulted in dark edges. Increasing the exposure of it eded up helping.
Continuing forward, I added some geometry to the transmission layer so there was a darker object inside of the statuette. I also adjusted the fresnel ramp and created a volume layer.

This how the composite looked with and without the volume layer.
I felt like the volume added to it, but I also liked the way you could see the geometry at the bottom more without it.
The last thing I was able to accomplish this week was getting a more realistic shadow from the transmission layer. The only thing was I wasn't able to control the different parts of the shadow.
